Discover a wealth of activities during your stay at Saroga Woods, from exploring the history of India's first red apples to hiking in the Saroga Jungle. Take a stroll through an apple orchard, visit the Hatu Mata Temple at Hatu Peak, and unwind at Tani Jubbar Lake. Orchard Visit
Once you arrive, you'll have plenty of activities to keep you busy. Learn about the history of India's first red apples, planted here in the early 1900s. Take a stroll through one of the many orchards surrounding us or enjoy the view from our home.
Hatu Peak
If you're up for more adventure, head to Hatu Peak, just 23 kilometers from Saroga Woods. At the area's highest point at 11150ft there is the Hatu Mata Temple and the peak has a 360-degree view of the greater Himalayas.
Meadow Walk
A 45-minute walk south-east of the Hatu Mata temple at 11150ft will lead you to Jau Baug meadows. This is a good picnic spot for which we can pack you a picnic basket. Occasionally you can see cattle and horses grazing in the meadows.
Saroga Jungle Walk
You can also go for short and long treks on the Saroga Jungle Walk, following the road or taking one of the trails along the way. Depending on the season you are visiting us in, you can see cherry and apple blossoms, fruit-laden trees, or snow on your path.
St. Mary's Church
If you're interested in history and architecture, head to St. Mary's Church, Kotgarh, just 10 kilometers from us. This church was built in 1872 by the British and has beautiful stained glass panels, an old bell hidden in a bell tower, and an Urdu inscription hanging on the walls.
Tani Jubbar Lake
For a peaceful retreat, visit Tani Jubbar Lake, just 10 kilometers from Saroga Woods. This picturesque lake is surrounded by forests and the Nag Devta temple, making it a great place to relax and unwind. There is a café close by to the lake where you can hop over for a coffee or snacks.
Local fairs
If you're planning a visit on 16th and 17th June, make sure not to miss the vibrant local fair that takes place around this time. This mela called the Shadau Jatar is dedicated to the local deity and will give you a glimpse of the Pahadi Devta culture. Local fairs start from end April and continue till end November.
Day trip to Sarahan Temple
The Bhimakali Temple houses the "Kuldevi" (the presiding deity) of the erstwhile Bushahr Kingdom. It’s a three-hour drive from us. The town is known as the "gateway of Kinnaur", it being near the old Indo-Tibetan Road. On your way back you can stop at Rampur, the local town by the Sutlej and take a walk along the charming Rampur Bushahr bazaar.
Jam Making Session
Since we are jam makers by profession, we are happy to host a jam or chutney making session for you depending on which fruit is in season during your visit. You can of course take home your culinary creation.
Fruit Picking
Experience the thrill of the harvest season by joining our neighbors at their orchard! Get your hands dirty as you learn how to pluck apples or cherries straight from the trees, and see first-hand how our mountain-grown fruits make their way from the orchard to your table.
When to Visit
January - February: If you're seeking snow, this is the best time to visit. The snow-clad mountains and fresh snowfall make for a picturesque view.
March: With some snow still around and cool weather, this month is perfect for those who want to experience a mix of winter and spring and cherry blossoms.
April: Trees around Saroga Woods have cherry and apple blossoms for the first couple of weeks. The weather is pleasant, making it a great time for outdoor activities.
May: With apple blossoms in full bloom and cherry harvest in progress, this month is the perfect time to experience the orchards in their full glory. Walk around our neighbors orchards where you can ask them about fruit growing in the Himalayas.
June - July: As the summer heat blazes through the plains, Saroga Woods offers a cool and refreshing escape. With temperatures below 30°C, this is a great time to relax and unwind.
August - September: As the apple harvest begins, the hills are bustling with activity. Experience the local culture and join in on the festivities. See the apple harvest and packing happening all around our area. See how the fruit reaches from farms to your tables.
October: As the weather cools down, the views of the Himalayas become even more stunning. This is a great time to go for a scenic hike and enjoy the clear skies.
November: As the weather gets nippy and crisp, it's time to cozy up by the fireplace with a hot cup of tea.
December: With cold, clear weather and the possibility of snow, this is the perfect time to experience the winter wonderland of Saroga Woods.
